Gilat’s RaySat E-7000 Making News Around The Globe

-Satellite-on-the-move solution being used to broadcast live video footage from world events as they happen-

Petah Tikva, Israel, 19 September, 2012– Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ: GILT), a worldwide leader in satellite networking technology, solutions and services, today announced that its low-profile mobile RaySat E-7000 system is taking center stage in the broadcast of live video footage from emerging world events as they happen.

For digital satellite news gathering (DSNG), the importance of a reliable on-the-move solution is paramount. The E-7000 system has been used in recent days and weeks to broadcast live from the landfall of hurricane Isaac off the southern coast of the United States, the 2012 Olympic Games in London as well as other key events such as the of inaugural visit to Mexico of Pope Benedict the XVI in March.

Gilat’s satellite-on-the-move (SOTM) solution is optimized to enable on-the-move broadcast of continuous live video. Aided by the solution’s compact, low profile dimensions and high efficiency, the E-7000 greatly enhances news crews’ ability to capture and broadcast news in-motion and with greater agility.

“We are pleased to see that our RaySat E-7000 antenna, integrated with our Wavestream Matchbox BUC, is being used by large media companies to broadcast mobile live video footage of unfolding events as they happen to millions of viewers the world over,” said Ilan Kaplan, AVP, Defense and Security, SOTM Antennas at Gilat. “In today’s fast-moving and competitive news cycle, organizations recognize the importance of being ‘fast and first’ and reporting their stories in-motion. As such, equipping their field crews with highly advanced broadcasting on-the-move technologies has become a crucial aspect of mobile news reporting.”

The E-7000 two-way, low profile antenna is 12 inches high and one of the lowest weight antennas in its category, weighing only 121 pounds. Together with Gilat’s matching Wavestream Matchbox BUC / Amplifier, the system’s compact dimensions provide an optimized solution for satellite-on-the-move applications such as digital satellite news gathering.

The solution can be configured for use with any Ku-band satellite to enable IP connectivity on fast-moving vehicles for real-time video, voice and data applications. With its high transmit gain ability, the E-7000 can provide data, HD video and voice streaming at multiple Mbps speeds.
